Get into God's Word

Get into God's Word
by Pastor Christopher Long, Grace Family Sanctuary Banting

Matthew 4:1-11
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”[a]5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.
For it is written:
‘ He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘ In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”[b]
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’”[c]8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,[d] Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”[e]11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

8 Practical things you can do to sharpen your spiritual weapon skills:
1. Make Bible reading a top priority.

2. Start systematically from the New Testament.
3. Read the Bible like you are reading a love letter from Jesus.

1 John 4:44 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Psalms 37:5
5 Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.

Romans 8:28, Hebrews 11:6, Psalms 23:4, John 3:16, John 10:10, 1 John 1:19

9 How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!

6. Use your imagination when you are reading the Bible.- Imagine and personalise the happenings to your sanctified perception so that the word will become alive.
Philippians 4:88 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
7. Use a Bible encyclopedia and commentary for further understanding.- The Bible is not one book but a library of 66 books.
- You hold in your hand the complete revelation of God's word!
8. Always pray before and after reading God's word.
- Ask God to show you His will and direction for the day that you will be facing/

That I will keep Your righteous judgments.
