Sewing a toddler skirt

I have some extra cloth after sewing pillow case for the kids. The leftover cloth was just nice to sew a toddler skirt for Little A, without any wastage. This is a nice Japanese cotton cloth which I bought from Nagoya. They do not have much choices compare to Spotlight, but definitely, the price is cheaper. Spotlight has too many choices with wallet-bleeding price. A meter of Frozen cloth cost RM60!

Anyway, this is a very very simple skirt. According to the tutorial, this project takes only 10mins! Wow! But I didn't manage to complete everything in 10 mins, but I took 30mins. 

The greatest challenge of sewing is to learn how to sew straight. I just have to master this first before I can sew more challenging piece, like a dress.

Sewing Baby Short

I have few old shirts and jeans that are still in pretty good condition that I felt a bit wasted to just dump them away. So, I decided to get hold of my scissors and cut ! I planned to sew all things baby : shorts, skirts, dress (so ambitious huh) .

  

Here's my first attempt of sewing short for the little boy using my old jeans. It was exciting to cut and measure and visualize how the baby short gonna looks like. But, I made a mistake! I shouldn't have cut the waist curve.. I should make it straight instead.

 

The hubby said it looks good for beginner...but the waistline is too small that my boy couldn't fit! So sad... otherwise this piece will make a good home-wear shorts. =D

Convert from old T-shirt to Short Leggings

This is part of my free-time project and I love sewing/baking/cooking whenever I have some "extra" time. I got inspired by one of my friend and she sews great leggings and romper for her baby girl. So, it's my time to get started of the sewing kits and scissors and CUT.

The downside is it is extremely difficult to find really nice stretchable cloth. I went to Nagoya and Kamdar but both shops do not sell tshirt type of cloth. It's not easy to find.. and I ended up dug my wardrobe and looked for old T-shirts that I can't fit or I don't like to wear. I found this ... and I started to get hold of my scissors and zooom.... Felt a bit wasteful for cutting such a nice shirt, but my heart whispers "It's ok, you can't wear anyway". Haha!

Very simple steps, very easy to sew and I'm done with the project in 30mins. =)

Sewing skills

My last sewing sessions were during secondary schools and at that time, I just love to sew. Sometimes I will try to dig my mom's cloth collections, stole some of the remainder cloths and start sewing a pillow or bolster case for my own. Luckily she didn't scold me for "stealing" those cloths. Hehe... Now, I got a mission to do, which is to sew a casing for Ashlynn's cot bumper and also her one set of pillow and bolsters case. I've not touched a sewing machine for so long and it took me about 10mins to figure out how to operate everything.

 

Bought this cloth from Nagoya, and I chose the cheapest cloth, RM2.50 per meter. Otherwise, the next cheapest could be RM9 per meter. So, what do you say? Since it's only a cot bumper casing... moreover, it will be fixed at babysitter's house, and not at home. Don't have to look really good right? We decided to fix the cot bumper on the baby's cot because sometimes, her legs got stuck in between rails and sometimes, she knocks her head on the rail. Ouchh.... I understand that it's not safe, but we got no choice.

This is how the cot bumper looks like, without the casing. Very nice color, but we decided to fix a casing on it, for washing sake.

Next mission, to sew a set of pillow and bolsters casing for the sweetie. This time, we bought a slightly expensive cloth, since we will be using it at home and she will be sleeping on the pillow, so it is important to get a better quality of cloth. We bought this nice polka dot cloth which cost RM12.80 per meter with 20% discount per meter. Total of 1.5 meter cost us RM15.

Next mission, to sew casing for our beloved po-ang from Ikea. Just need some time to go Nagoya and get nice design of cloth again. I need time.... but where to find time?
