Destiny is a Journey @ CHC, 21 Feb 2010

Destiny is a Journey by David Oh
2 Corinthians 11:23-30
23 Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak as a fool—I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?30 If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.

Galations 6:9
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

The secret is persistent faith.
One of the key secrets to living is understanding the different seasons of life.

7 Seasons/Phases of our Destiny Journey

1. Dream (Revelation)

Genesis 12:1-3
1 Now the LORD had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

The moment you lose your dream, you lose your energy and purpose for living.

Proverbs 29:18
18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.

When you have no reason to live for, you will live for no reason. Vision applies to every area of life.

2. Decision (Conviction)

Genesis 12:4
4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

The decisions phase is where you make a firm commitment to invest your time, money and energy into your dream.

James 1:6-8
6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

If you have a dream, your belief in the dream must be a conviction and not a preference.
If nobody knows your passion, you have none!

3. Delay

When God gives you a dream, it does not immediately come to pass. We need to learn patience during the delay stage, and to trust the Lord. Delay is not denial. God is slow but He is never late.

Hebrews 12:2
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 10:35-36
35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

Hebrews 6:12
12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

If you want greatness, you need patience!

Proverbs 20:21
21 An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning
Will not be blessed at the end.

4. Difficulties and Failures

James 1:2-3
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

The whole purpose of having delays, difficulties and failures in life is to build CHARACTER in us. God wants us to be successful people with SUBSTANCE!
In order for my character to grow, I need resistance.
You will not know how much faith you have until you face delays, difficulties, failures, trials and testings!

1 Peter 1:6-7
6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

5. Dead End

Psalms 34:8
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Every great man or owman of God needs to go through brokenness where they come to the end of themselves and the beginning of God.
If you want greatness, you must embrace brokenness.

6. Deliverance

Proverbs 24:16
For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—

Impossibilities are opportunities for God to show His glory.
